THE EARLY BIRD CATCHES THE WORM

First I write on the board this saying: "The early bird catches the worm", then I tell the students that it's related to what we're going to do in that lesson. I put on a short film about Mr. Bean being late at the dentist.

I explain them that we're going to express Mr. Bean's routines using the third person singular of the simple present. We shortly review the third person singular spelling rules. I pause the movie every time Mr. Bean carries on a routine and ask them to write it down in English. Working in pairs, they have to describe all the morning habits Mr. Bean does before arriving to the dentist's office.

This way they learn how to express habits in the present and practise reapeatedly the third person singular of present tense of different verbs, and they learn vocabulary related to routines and habits. Finally, I ask them if they have guessed the meaning of the saying I wrote at the beginning of the lesson, and if they haven't, I explain it to them.
