Before starting teaching the first didactic unit of my textbook, the Students´ book includes an introductory unit in which my students review the Simple Past Simple tense. As usual, they have to learn the list of irregular verbs which is a tedious task.
After Paul Seligson's first session, I thought that it could be very effective to put into practice the activity related to "giving students something to read or hear" as a warm-up for the beginning of the session. Such activity would be connected to the teaching and learning of irregular verbs. And..EUREKA.. I found on the Internet the following joke:
-"What is the past tense of William Shakespeare?
- It is 'Wouldiwas Shookspeared'.
This joke has allowed me to introduce the topic of the introductory unit and my students to be aware that they can study the list of oirregular verbs in a different way, i.e. they can play with words creating puns in order to learn the list of verbs- or at least, it could help them learn the most complex ones.
For next session, as a homework, the students are going to invent a pun and/or a joke using some irregular verbs from the list. Then, they will present these puns/jokes to the rest of the class in order to facilitate their learning.
